The new variant of the coronavirus that is the delta variant first came in India. It is more dangerous than the initial alpha variant of the coronavirus found in the UK. But according to a study in Lancet journal, Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines provide the best protection against the delta variant of the virus.
According to the researcher at Public health Scotland and the Edinburgh University, UK, the Pfizer vaccine offers better results against the delta Variant of the virus compared to Oxford- Astrazeneca or Covishield in India. The analysis of this research included the period from 1st April to 6th nun and the distribution of cases.
Great news for the people
This research team analysed 29 543 cares of Delta Variant of coronavirus over the period, and 377 were admitted to a covid-19 hospital in Scotland. According to the news, the new Delta variant is found in 7723 community cases and 134 severe cases. The research found that the Pfizer vaccine provided 92% protection against the alpha variant of the coronavirus, at the same time 79% against Delta strain after the second dose of the covid-19 vaccine.
The research showed Astrazeneca vaccine offered 60 percent protection against the deadly Delta Variant of coronavirus and 73% against the alpha Variant. This study also found that the two doses of vaccine give better protection against the delta variant in comparison to a single dose of the vaccine.
The risk for hospitals and different places doubled due to the coronavirus’s Delta Variant compared to the alpha Variant, and the death rate was also higher. Both AstraZeneca and Pfizer were highly effective against providing protection against Delta Variant of the infection and in reducing the risk of hospitalization. But the effect of these vaccines is lower when compared with the alpha Variant of the coronavirus.
The new variant has become a significant problem for the world; after fighting with the alpha Variant of the coronavirus for one year, the world is not fully prepared to tackle this new variant. Therefore, in many countries, the imposition of lockdown has started again as a temporary solution against the virus.
The study leader says the vaccine comparison should not be interpreted as different groups received each type of vaccine. And different types of immune systems developed in different groups with each shot of the coronavirus vaccine.
