Marvel movies are extremely popular. The recent collaboration between Marvel and Disney has resulted in extremely popular OTP series, such as the “Wandavision” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”. Its latest offering surprised even industry experts when ‘Loki’ premiered on Wednesday, 9th June 2021 to “the largest US premiere-day audience for any of Marvel’s Disney+ shows with over 890,000 households tuning in to watch the launch of the latest web series.
Many comparisons have been made with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier reporting 759,000 and Wandavision reporting over 655,000 viewers, respectively. However, ‘Loki’ took the cake with almost 900,000 viewers tuning in to watch its premiere. A report by Samba TV states, “Clearly, the growing number of household tuning in on Day 1 proves that the Marvel Disney+ series are growing in momentum.”
Earlier, Samba TV registered an astonishing 1.7 million households tuning in for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on the first weekend of the show, while over 1.6 million households tuned in to watch Wandavision during the first three days of the show’s launch on the popular OTP channel.
Samba TV measured streaming viewership in 3 million households with terrestrial smart TVs, registering viewers who tuned in for more than 5 minutes.
Why audiences love Loki
Tom Hiddleston was possible right when he said not long ago that Wednesdays would be the new Fridays as Disney+ changed its schedule for ‘Loki.’ Wandavision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier launch new episodes on the streaming channel on weekends. This made Fridays a mad time for viewers as they rushed home to catch the latest episodes of their favorite TV shows. However, things are about to change drastically as Disney+ plans to launch new episodes of ‘Loki’ mid-week, every Wednesday.
This also makes us wonder how it will impact the audience. Several questions arose, making industry experts wonder whether people will wake up in the middle of the night on a weekday to be the first to catch the latest episode showcasing the god of mischief’s crazy exploits. Marvel fans are already enthralled by the verbal back-and-forth between two great actors – Tom Hiddleston, who plays the titular role, and Mobius M. Mobius, an agent of the Time Variance Authority, played by award-winning actor Owen Wilson.
However, seeing the immense response to its premiere show, the creators of ‘Loki’ are more than confident that the new schedule will not have much impact on the viewership, given the fast pace of the show and extremely engaging acting.
According to experts, one of the main reasons for the excellent success of ‘Loki’ is the fact that increasing numbers of fans loved his character in the various Marvel movies he has starred in. The excellent acting and characterization by Tom were received well widely by the audience. This prompted Marvel to launch ‘Loki,’ especially after the resounding success of Wandavision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on the globally popular streaming platform.
